Once again, here we are. We’ve made it so far, covering almost all of Sweden. Last time I reported it was wednesday and we were off to Gothenburg by train.

Wednesday april 5th: This day it was time for Brötz in Gothenburg and the following days we stayed in the western parts of the country. I’ve played at the Brötz venue several times through the years, this was the second time with Thymeshift and we shared the bill with the great, young norwegian band, Juno. After finishing soundcheck and a lebanese meal we took the stage and played one set. The gig went fine, but we did have some issues with the sound of the room and getting our electronic instruments balanced with the acoustic instruments. Swedish Radio made a recording of the gig so watch out for the broadcast!

Thursday april 6th: In the morning we headed out for Uddevalla to play at a big audition for educational productions. Me, Johan and Thomas made two short appearances with our trio setting, Thymeshift Elektronix. Then we headed back for Gothenburg and Studio Zen to make a documentation of the music. That night we recorded about an hour of music.

Friday april 7th: The day started where we left off the night before. We kept recording until lunch time when it was time to leave for our next gig in Fengersfors, Dalsland. I will never forget those hours in the car. As we were travelling, some lunatic in Stockholm ran a truck at full speed through the streets, killing several people and injuring many more. We kept following the reporting from the incident on national radio all the way up to Fengersfors. What a tragedy! This word has become such a crazy place and I’m thinking about my kids a lot. What kind of world are they growing up to. How can we leave such a mess to them. Anyway, the evening was marked by the Stockholm incident. We performed a fine concert, reminding me and perhaps the audience as well, that music is a positive force that makes people feel things. This also strenghtens my belief that by doing/performing/experiencing art in every form we develop ourselves into sensitive human beings with a strong connection to our emotions, learning to channel them in appropriate ways. Not by fighting and killing each other. The fact that goverments are cutting down on the teaching of arts in school shows that there’s very little support for that thought and it makes me scared of what the consequenses might be.

Saturday april 8th: Back to Gothenburg again to make our final gig in Mölndal. We performed a really nice gig to a great audience in the catacombs of the old parts of Mölndal and right after that it was time for me to leave for Västerås and spend time with my family.

The rest of the band continued for two more gigs in Vänersborg and Norrköping with Carl Svensson subbing for me on guitar.

Take care!

Thomas

The Thymeshift + Amsler Spring Tour is on the roll! We’ve been rehearsing and we’re now a couple of gigs into the tour.

Saturday april 1st: The first gig took place in Stockholm @ Plugged Records. We played two sets in this really cozy club located in a cellar in the center of the Old Town in Stockholm. After finishing up we rushed on to the next gig. Västerås, Club 19, the same night. Great feeling, lots of people stopping by. The gig got filmed. Hope to post some stuff from the gig soon!

Sunday april 2nd: We spent the day rehearsing some new tunes and preparing for the workshop coming up on tuesday.

Monday april 3rd: Early morning with some packing to do and leaving my daughter at school. Then leaving for the airport and the flight up to Luleå in the northern part of the country. From Luleå we had to catch the bus to our final destination, Boden. Arrived in the afternoon. I have a special relationship with Boden as I spent my late teens there studying music. It was really great to be back. I took a long walk and visited all my old places. Not much had happened in the 26 years passing since the last time I was there. We finished up the day hanging out at the hotel, having a few beers and playing geography quiz!

Tuesday april 4th: Early morning soundcheck at my old Music Programme School. I really had a blast meeting up with some of my former teachers. So glad to see that many of them were still alive and well. We performed a concert and a clinic for the students, talking about the power of music and the importance of having fun making music. After a quick lunch at school we headed back for Luleå and the flight back to Stockholm.

Wednesday now and we’re heading for Gothenburg. Tonight at 8 we’re playing at Brötz. Looking forward. Swedish Radio is recording. I’ll be back with an update soon!

See Ya!
